Beyond Acquaintance

Experiencing More in Your Friendship with God and Others

Presented by Andre Lesperance
St. Mary Parishioner

Music * Message * Practical Tools

Whether you’re on fire with faith, struggling to make sense of it all, somewhere in between, or all of the above,
kick-start your Lent by attending the St. Mary Parish Mission 2020!

Pope Francis said, “Knowing Jesus is the best gift that any person can receive.” Pope Benedict XVI said, “There is nothing more beautiful than to know Christ and to speak to others of our friendship with him.”
As true and wonderful as statements like these may be, do you ever find yourself:

  • Wrestling with what it means to “know” Jesus in a way that leads to greater peace and joy?
  • Longing to experience more clarity and connection in your faith?
  • Wondering how to share God’s love with others more effectively?

In this year’s Parish Mission, parishioner Andre Lesperance will lead us to reflect on and experience more of God’s heart for us and for people in our lives. Through honest sharing, inspiring parishioner testimonies, practical teaching, and prayerful music, we’ll soak in God’s goodness together for two evenings leading up to the holy season of Lent. Joining Andre will be a team of talented musicians from St. Mary Parish and beyond to enhance our time of prayer. Refreshments and socializing follow.

Loving God: From Religion to Relationship

Each of us travels on a journey of faith through life - encountering many twists and turns, joys and sorrows, and apparent successes and failures.  Through it all, God’s infinite love for us remains a steady and sure foundation for growing to become more like God.  And very often, the most critical stretch of this journey of faith is the eighteen inches from the head to the heart.  Monday night of the mission will help us take one more step on this journey, and will equip us with a practical prayer method we can easily use and pass along to others.

Loving Others: Sharing the Heartbeat of God

In the gospels, the word that commonly describes Jesus’ internal reaction to people of all kinds is splanchna in Greek, which is often translated as “compassion.”  There’s more to this word than we typically realize, and reflecting on it unlocks with greater clarity both God’s amazing love for us, and our call to love others in the same way.  In short, God calls and enables us to embody his own splanchna for others.  What an amazing and sacred privilege this is!  Tuesday night will feature two practical ways we can both give and receive the compassion of God regularly in our lives.
