Project Lead The Way (PLTW)
Project Lead the Way implemented to better prepare students for future success!
St. Mary Parish School has AGAIN (2018—2019, 2019—2020, 2020—2021, 2021—2022, 2022—2023) been recognized as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for the School Year! We are 1 of 310 elementary schools across this U.S. to receive this honor!
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education curricular programs used in schools. The hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to areas of study that they typically do not pursue, and provides them with a foundation and proven path to college and career success.
Recognizing that K-5 students already have the qualities of great makers and innovators, PLTW Launch taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering – now and for years to come. Through PLTW Launch, St. Mary Hales Corners Parish School’s students will become problem solvers. Whether designing a paint brush or building digital animations based on their own short stories, students engage in critical and creative thinking, build teamwork skills, and develop a passion for and confidence in STEM subjects.
For this school year, St. Mary School extended our PLTW Launch coursework to 4K students - 5th grade. In addition, we added PLTW Gateway to our curriculum, as our 7th grade science curriculum will include the PLTW-Gateway Course Medical Detectives.
