Service Overview

At St. Mary Hales Corners Parish School, we live in a Christ-centered enviroment.  As such, community service is fundamental to all that we do at our school.

Hunger for Haiti.  Small Meal.  Big Impact.

As an example, last year at Lent, the 5K classes invited parishioners to "Hunger for Haiti".  Parishioners replaced any number of their own meals with disaster relief meal packs and gave the money they would have spent on groceries to the Haiti Relief Fund.

Haiti Gifts

In February of 2018, St. Mary missioners visited children from Catholic elementary school in Latiboliere to give them the bracelets and cards made with love by our children of St Mary's. The kids of the 3K, 4K, and 5K were very excited to receive their gifts! Did you know? Haitian custom is to not smile for cameras?

Community Service.

Along with our commitment to quality education, we will highlight the importance of community service and the understanding of Catholic Social Teachings. Each class will work with our parish ministry partners to ensure that service is embedded in our academic program.

8th Grade Repairers of the Breach:  In June 2017, the 8th grade graduating class planted a vegetable garden, painted, sorted donations and cleaned at Repairers of the Breach.  Teamed this year with Repairers, the only daytime homeless resource center in Milwaukee, each eighth grade family helped by preparing and serving a meal throughout the year.
As shown below in the slideshow, the whole class, at the end of the school year, helped out and solidified this parish connection.  The day culminated with a witness talk by Wille Dotson (homeless member) and "inspiration" from Pastor West.  A wonderful day!

Service Efforts from 5th Grade

Service is a key part of every grade level at St. Mary and 5th grade is no exception. For the past two years the fifth graders have been have been partnered with the Nia Imani Center (Milwaukee’s only long-term transitional housing center for women and their children). Our teachers have always felt the importance of educating their students on ways to help others. Collections this year: Fall: scarves, cleaning supplies, pumpkin baskets for the kids, diapers/wipes/laundry baskets; Christmas Collection: handmade blankets and bottles of lotion and gifts for moms.
