Mission 2019 in Review

A Movie Screening and Reflection
This event took place March 4 and 5, 2019.
This content remains as a resource for continued reflection.

Each year, in the week leading up to Ash Wednesday and the First Sunday of Lent, we host a Parish Mission. This year, we are going to offer something new to help you prepare to enter into the Season of Lent.

Over the course of two evenings, we are going to screen the 2017 movie, The Shack, based on the best-selling book of the same name. The story is about a man named Mackenzie who has endured the tragic death of his daughter. In his grieving, he is invited to spend a weekend with God. This experience will change his life, his pain, and his understanding of God, forever.

We chose this movie because of its ability to touch hearts and to help us expand our understanding of God and God’s presence in our lives. This story is not meant to be a theological treatise on God, nor does it take the place of the Sacred Scriptures in conveying to us the truth about God. It is simply the story of a man in extreme pain and grief who comes to find God’s healing love in a way he never imagined. It is our hope that your imaginations will also be stirred so that you might experience God in a new way this Lenten Season.

 A Note to Parents

This movie is rated PG-13. While there is no vulgarity or sexual content, a few of the scenes are very intense and not well-suited for young children.
