Job Posting: Parish Accountant (Part-time)

St. Mary Parish is seeking a Parish Accountant.
(Seeking 20 hours per week, with a very flexible schedule. There may be very limited evening or weekend work required.)


This position reports to the Director of Administrative Services and works with the Financial
Administrative Assistant to support the accounting functions of the Parish and School.

Responsible to maintain and manage the financial information systems of the Parish and School
and generate accurate and consistent monthly financial statements using Parish-Soft Accounting
system. Makes all journal entries, adjustments and enters all transactions.

Monitors and maintains the parish banking, investment and endowment accounts, including
processing all deposits and disbursements, monitoring online banking and reconciling bank and
investment statements. Reconciles all accounts.

Generates all payments to vendors, and allocates those expenses between internal cost centers
according to the budget.

Coordinates all receipts including; coordinating volunteers for money-counting and weekly or
daily bank deposit, depositing school receipts, advising parishioners engaged in fundraising
activities for the parish and school.

Processes payroll for School and Parish through payroll vendor. Monitors reports, ensures
the accuracy of hourly wages, benefit payment, withholding and tax payments.

Maintain appropriate records for all required federal, state and local governmental filings.
Processes all monthly, quarterly and annual insurance, Archdiocese and payroll filings.

Supports the DAS in the administration of employee benefit and insurance programs (Health, Dental, Life, pension, 403b, and Disability) Calculates premium payments. Maintains tidy personnel files and ensures compliance with federal and Archdiocese standards. Assists DAS in setting annual budget, tracking expenses and monitoring the overall financial health of parish and success in achieving budget goals by furnishing financial information including current budget allocations, year-to-date balances and anticipated financial needs for the future.

Maintains personal skill set of a bookkeeping profession through Archdiocesan sponsored
training, workshops and classes, and outside sources.

  • Prior financial accounting experience, especially in the areas of receipts, disbursements and expense allocations
  • Knowledge of generally acceptable accounting standards

  • Computer skills : Microsoft Excel and Word, PDS and Parish Soft Accounting software
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task
  • Good moral and ethical character
  • Accounting degree

Catholic in good-standing preferred but not required
