For over 160 years, Music Ministry at St. Mary Catholic Faith Community has been a priority. Our fine tradition of various choirs, cantors and instrumentalists gives witness to the importance of this ministry.
We wish to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to each and every member of St. Mary Catholic Faith Community to participate in the music ministry as a choir member, an instrumentalist or as a member of the Assembly, lifting your voice in song to the Lord.
Choirs (except for the Resurrection Choir) are in session during the school year, September-June, with a January break.
Currently our Music Ministry consists of the following:
As of September 2008, the Adult Choir will be a merge of the Acclaim Choir and Harmony Choir. This choir will have a rotating schedule:
Rehearsal is on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 pm in Room 105.
Membership is open to all ages, high school age through senior citizens. This choir has a wide variety of musical talent and experience, ranging from non-music reading members to musicians with formal training, from one to thirty years service. Some members are soloists and cantors while others are group singers. New members, regardless of skill or experience, are always welcome.
No auditions required.
The Children's Choir welcomes children from grades 3-8. The choir rehearses 5:45-6:45 pm every Tuesday night. They sing at one Liturgy each month, alternating the Liturgy time, as well as singing for special occasions.
No auditions required.
The Resurrection Choir, established in 1987, has been very successful in maintaining a membership who minister to those who invite the Church into their lives at the time of the loss of a loved one.
This choir sings for all funerals, memorial services and the annual "Mass for the Recently Bereaved."
Members of this choir enjoy flexible scheduling and are able to participate fairly easily on a short notice. There is usually a 2-3 day notice of an upcoming funeral or memorial service.
No auditions required.
Cantors lead the Assembly in sung Psalm during the Liturgy of the Word and in sung prayer throughout the entire Liturgy. Cantors must be able to read music, to be willing to learn more about their role in the liturgy (historically and currently) and to grow in their ministry through practice, voice training and workshops.
Auditions required.
Unique in all music ministries, the instrumentalist employs sounds rather than words. Through non-verbal communication alone, instrumentalists help create an atmosphere of prayer. We welcome all instrumentalists, playing all types of instruments, to enhance the Assembly's prayer.
Auditions required.
