As a parish community that is extremely fortunate, we at St. Mary’s do not often stop to reflect on how lucky we are. This is unfortunate. We have much for which to be thankful. Our houses have many rooms, our church has electricity, and our children are well-fed and educated. In the midst of worrying about what to eat for dinner or where to go on vacation, it is understandable that thoughts of those who; have nothing to eat and nowhere to go don’t often come to mind. Yet, despite the fact that we don’t think of them, many people live in dire conditions.

In Haiti, families of up to twenty-five live in unfurnished houses smaller than the crying room. Less than 80% of the country has electricity, over 70% are illiterate, and thousands of people die each year due to malnutrition. Their lives are a constant struggle for survival, and they could truly benefit from our prayers...and our help.

Parish Twinning Program

For twenty-one years, the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas has been dedicated to nurturing understanding, friendship, and love between Catholic parishes in the Third World and North America. After a decision to twin is made by parish leaders, a viable and loving relationship is established through frequent communication and prayerful solidarity.

With the emphasis on creating very real and personal relationships, hundreds of individuals have visited these countries as a result of this outreach. Bonds are strengthened through visits by Third World pastors to sister parishes here.

These relationships form a bridge whereby the love of God flows in both directions as parishes care, share, and pray for one another.
